Definitely not Blazers related, but if you haven't heard, the Davis Cup Final will be held at Memorial Coliseum November 30-December 2. As you may know, I've come to embrace tennis as my second favorite sport, so I'm excited. Stars like Andy Roddick, James Blake, and the Boba Fett of professional Tennis, Nikolay Davydenko. Roddick wants to export all clay from the state, tennis humor!
Great tennis, patriotism, and a Cold War throwback USA vs. Russia matchup up. Not to mention tennis hooligans (an old SNL skit with David Hyde Pierce that I can't find on youtube. It involves shifting in your seat as the player you don't like serves, awesome.)
Tickets on sale October 15.

Scoop Jackson, I salute you
Its in my nature to produce in uneven amounts. I'm sporadic like that. But this hasn't been the reason for my lack of blogging lately. First of all, there's not really a whole lot going on with the Blazers right now. Second, The US Open is on.
Football is "kicking off" as they like to cleverly say. In the U.S., people are nuts about this. I watch college and pro, and have my teams that I follow, watch, and what not. I enjoy the game. But seriously, there's something better going on. The US Open is on.
A statement such as this...this is against The Collective of the American Sportsfan. Close to blasphemy. Tennis? TENNIS?!? Indeed sir, The US Open is on.
I started a post outlining why tennis is so great, then paused and trailed off, wondering why I felt compelled to do such a thing. I guess after taking heat from various representatives of The Collective, virtually all of whom admit to never even really watching tennis, I was on the defensive. If you watch, you will see how great this is. Go ahead, you still have time, The US Open is on.
Scoop Jackson decided to draw attention to the fact that The US Open is on, daring to create a list detailing why the event is better than college football. Deadspin called it a pile of crap, which is a criticism lobbed at much of Scoop's work, but this time could be a reaction to his audacity to go against a cornerstone of The Collective. I can't imagine what his mailbag will look like. Oh yes, The US Open is on.
If you've never bothered to watch The US Open (is on), take a quick look at Scoop's list, here's another link. He may be known as a marginalized hack, but still, he saw the light and spoke on it. HE, a member of ESPN. ESPN, an entity that controls much of The Collective but also relies upon it for survival, similar to the sentient machines' control of and dependence on human life in The Matrix. This is a crack in the wall. Dissemination is imminent. Is Scoop's destiny parallel to that of NEO? If so, who is this guy? The US Open is on, like the television.

Expanding horizons, 17
I'm more basketball connoisseur than a sports fan. I'll watch football, maybe even baseball, but I don't really get too into either. I tried to watch soccer, but dude, seriously, zzzzzz. I'm working on it, and I think I have a leading candidate to serve Commander Riker to my Captain Jean-Luc Picard that is basketball.
Tennis.
There, I said it. The last couple years, I've been watching the big tournaments. Now I find myself starting to follow storylines. I watched Davydenko vs. Donald Young last night. Young is my new favorite American in tennis (Djokovic still holds my heart overall), thanks to coming out of nowhere to almost topple Davydenko while wearing his hat tipped to the side the whole time.
US Open baby, I'm ready.

Awesome Blazers garbage on Ebay: Volume I
As Blaze of Love pointed out, there really is some awesomely horrible Blazers crap available for purchase. But what about second hand Blazers crap? That, my friends, is a treasure trove awaiting your arrival. Here are some of my favorites currently available on Ebay:
- What could be better than a Jarrett Jack bobble head? A Jarret Jack bobble head AND a Jamaal Magloire bobble head! The fact that such an object as a Magloire bobble head exists has me searching for new answers on life.
- Everyone remembers those rad Dairy Queen Blazers Glasses. You can buy the whole set. For some reason when I was younger a glass featuring Clyde Drexler laying in a net converted into a hammock spinning a tennis ball on his finger seemed totally normal. If my parents got rid of our family collection of these you will find me bidding on this auction shortly.
- If you can explain what that picture is in front of the TRAILBLAZERS type please tell me. So far I think I make out an axe.
- A somewhat disturbing Clyde Drexler Dream Team t-shirt.
- A Blazers pinwheel belt buckle.
- And my personal favorite, a genuine Bud Light 1987 Blazers Playoff Cap. With laser inscribed autographs! I plan on bidding on this and am really, really hoping it has one of those elastic band things around the back for maximum comfort.

The Blazers ARE NOT INJURY PRONE
With the recent spat of injuries, it appears that even the Pessimist's Preview failed capture the extent to which this team has a problem staying healthy. It is significant to note that the injury bug has spread well beyond the Foundation (Roy, Aldridge, Oden) and appears to be contaminating the rest of the squad; Blake with his hamstring, Frye with his ankle, Webster with his foot, Przybilla with his lungs, and now Fernandez with his ankle. Understandably, some fans are worried. I was terrified.
Then it hit me. A team can't possibly have this many injuries. It just doesn't happen. Clearly, there is something else going on. There is only one logical explanation.
These men are madly in love with trainer Jay Jenson. You can't blame them. The man has a sort of seductive gravity that pulls you in like the waves do a grain of sand. It should come as no surprise that people want to be around him by any means necessary. If I were a Blazer, I would probably fake both an injury and an interest in tennis to try to get as much face time with Jay as possible.
So don't worry about these "injuries." They are simply man-crushes that will pass as the season moves along. Because while Jay Jenson may be a healer of wounds, he is also a breaker of hearts. After a few tear-filled nights and a week or so of R.E.M., these Blazers will be back in action.

Billy Packer, Walter Herrmann, and the Revenge of Zach Randolph
Its Final Four Day, and I'm watching UCLA v. Florida as I write this. Watching the Pac-10 this year, I've come to expect this smothering UCLA defense. Whats never fails to impress me is their amazing ability to block out. After Florida misses a shot, watching the Bruins go to work is pretty fun. Joakim Noah was just boxed all the way out of bounds on a recent shot. Nice.
I don't root for UCLA often, but I'm really hoping they win today as I have had my fill of Noah's constant chest thumping and screaming, not to mention the constant cuts to his dad sporting the latest crazy Euro tennis player attire.
There was another interesting thing I noticed during today's Final 4 CBS Broadcast, and it came from Billy Packer (who as we all know, doesn't give a fuck what you think of him, which is awesome). If you need a quick reminder, Bill Simmon's article for ESPN.com is a good summary of the man who is the Voice of the Final 4.
Anyways, Jim Nantz (blah) asked the mandatory question towards the end of the Georgetown v. Ohio State game, and the conversation basically went like this:
"So Billy, what do you think of the Oden/Hibbard matchup we just saw?"
Billy: "Well, neither dominated the game. It wasn't Walton versus Kareem or Russell out there."
Nantz (blah): "Right, like many are quick to say they belong with them already. But do you see the potential for them to join that company someday?"
...crickets chirping for a few wonderful seconds of total silence......
Billy: "No."
Nantz (blah): "No!?!?!?!?!?!?! Errrrrgeeee My robot brain cannot handle opinions outside of the mainstream school of basketball thought!!!! SAVE ME BILLY!"
Billy: "I just think those players were just a different type."
And then instead of starting a good conversation that wasn't lame banter and making the same points over and over again, Nantz (blah) just rebooted his hard drive and moved on to talk about something else. Too bad Nantz sucks, I would have enjoyed hearing Billy's opinions about these two players. Nantz's ability to keep broadcasts free of originality and interesting topics is truly amazing.
Moving on, Zach Randolph is shutting it down for the rest of the year. I want him gone anyways, and I want the Blazers to lose more games to improve the outside chances of nabbing Durant, so this should be a good thing. But as of right now, I'm in the playoffs of fantasy basketball. Randolph is on my team. I had to pick up this guy as a replacement. There's only one explanation for this timing, Z-BO (or at the least, some posse member) reads my blog and is trying to sabotage me. Z-BO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (yelling while shaking fists at the sky)

Terrell Brandon is a Man of Action
The city of Portland loves Terrell Brandon. Why not? He's from here, loves it here, and seems to be a very good human being. Injuries ended his All-Star NBA career too soon, but the guy doesn't need basketball to be a success. These days he plays lots of tennis, has investments in the community, and organizes cool events like a high school basketball tournament on MLK Day. Add crime-fighting to that list. Wow.

Davis Cup Ticket Prices
As you may or may not know, I've been excited about the Davis Cup coming to Portland. Tennis has become my second favorite sport, and yet I still haven't seen a live match at any level. The gravity of this novelty is strong.
Being as it hasn't yet popped up on the official ticket site yet, I figured I'd share an email I got regarding ticket info:
